Carer's Allowance application checklist

Check what you need, see what's missing, and get application-ready. Carer's Allowance is the main benefit for people caring at least 35 hours a week in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and this checklist follows the claim in the order it actually happens.
Based on DWP's published guidance. FeatherKeep does not decide eligibility, complete forms, or give benefits advice — confirm details at gov.uk/carers-allowance .

How the earnings rule works

Carer’s Allowance compares your weekly earnings after allowable deductions against a threshold of £204 a week (from 6 April 2026). Broadly, the calculation starts from your gross pay and takes off income tax, National Insurance, half of your pension contributions, and certain care costs you pay so you can work.

This explains how the calculation is structured — it is not a decision about your own eligibility, and FeatherKeep does not assess claims. The official rules and the actual calculation are on gov.uk/carers-allowance/eligibility . If you are close to the threshold, speak to the Carer’s Allowance Unit or a benefits adviser before you claim.

Keeping the 35 hours straight

The claim, and any later review, rests on the care you actually provide each week. A dated record is easier to answer from than memory.
