Introduction

FeatherKeep Inc. ("FeatherKeep", "we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy and the privacy of the families who trust us with sensitive caregiving information. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and your rights under applicable Canadian law including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

FeatherKeep stores sensitive health and caregiving information on behalf of families. We take that responsibility seriously. We will never sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except as described in this policy.

What information we collect

Account information: Name, email address, and phone number when you create an account.

Household and care recipient information: The name, relationship, medical conditions, medications, allergies, emergency contacts, and communication and support needs of the person you are caring for. This information is entered by you and controlled by you.

Documents: Files you upload to the document vault including wills, power of attorney documents, insurance cards, medication lists, psychological assessments, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), therapy reports, Disability Tax Credit documents, ODSP and AISH letters, and any other documents you choose to store.

Expense records: Caregiving expenses you log including amount, category, date, payer, receipt files, and notes. This information is used to generate your accountant-ready export reports.

Household activity: Responsibilities, updates, and contributions logged by household members.

Subscription and billing information: Your subscription plan and payment information. Payment card details are processed and stored by Stripe — FeatherKeep never stores raw card numbers.

Device and usage information: General device type, operating system, and app usage patterns used to improve our service. We do not use this information for advertising.

How we use your information

  • To provide the FeatherKeep household caregiving service including emergency profiles, document vault, expense tracking, and financial program reference features
  • To generate accountant-ready expense reports and contribution summaries you request
  • To send you medication refill reminders and other household alerts you have configured
  • To process your subscription payments through Stripe
  • To respond to your support requests
  • To improve the FeatherKeep service based on aggregate usage patterns
  • To send you product updates and feature announcements — you may opt out at any time

We do not use your personal information to train artificial intelligence models. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers.

How we share your information

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Within your household: Information you add to your FeatherKeep household is accessible to family members you have invited, according to the access level you assigned them (full access, view only, or emergency only).
  • Emergency profile link: If you choose to share your care recipient's emergency profile link, the information on that profile is accessible to anyone with the link. You control what information appears on the emergency profile and you can revoke the link at any time.
  • Service providers: We share data with a small number of trusted service providers who help us operate FeatherKeep — including Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payment processing), and email delivery providers. These providers are contractually required to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority.

We do not share your medical information, caregiving records, or document vault contents with any third party except as described above.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Supabase on servers located in Canada and the United States. We use Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure that each household's data is accessible only to members of that household. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data and household records are deleted within 30 days. Document files are deleted from storage within 7 days of account deletion.

We maintain an audit log of sensitive actions including data exports, document access, and account changes.

Your rights under PIPEDA

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Export your data in a portable format (available in Settings → Export my data)
  • Withdraw consent to our use of your information (this will require account deletion)
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca

Children's privacy

FeatherKeep is used by adult caregivers to manage information about their care recipients, which may include children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. The care recipient information stored in FeatherKeep is entered and controlled by the adult caregiver account holder.

Financial guidance disclaimer

The financial program reference features in FeatherKeep — including CRA expense references, government benefit program links, and caregiving evidence logs — are provided for informational and organisational purposes only. This information does not constitute tax advice, financial advice, or legal advice. FeatherKeep is not responsible for the accuracy or completeness of this information. Always confirm eligibility with a qualified Canadian accountant, tax professional, or the relevant government program directly.

Changes to this policy

We will notify you by email if we make material changes to this Privacy Policy. The date of the most recent update is shown at the top of this page.
