Who it’s for
Respite care is for family caregivers who need time away while the person they care for continues to be supported at home. Families often ask when:
- A spouse or adult child is the main caregiver and hasn’t had a real break in a long time
- The caregiver has their own appointments, work or commitments
- The family is planning a short trip and needs someone at home
- Caring for someone with dementia has become tiring to do alone
Support assessed around the person while you take a break
In-Home Respite & Companionship
A familiar, friendly presence for the time you’re away.
Household Assistance & Meal Preparation
Meal preparation and light household tasks that are part of the plan.
Private Duty Personal Care & Mobility Support
Help with personal routines when the person needs it, from a caregiver authorized for personal care.
Dementia & Alzheimer's Respite Care
Familiar routines and a calm approach for someone living with memory changes, within assessed non-clinical support. Not every level of need can be accommodated.
Regular or occasional breaks
A one-time break, a regular weekly break or longer coverage, depending on availability.
Respite is the reason. The care fits the person.
Respite describes why support is being arranged. The Care Plan determines what care is actually delivered.
There is no generic respite package. We ask what the person will need while their usual caregiver is away, and the Care Plan sets out the actual support during each visit.
Pricing is based on the care arrangement — the level of support, caregiver qualifications, visit length and schedule — not on individual tasks. You’ll see the exact price in your proposed arrangement before you approve anything.
How it works
- 01
Connect with a care coordinator
Call or request a callback to discuss your location, timing and support needs. We aim to call you back within 15 minutes. Response times depend on team availability.
- 02
Instant Matching: Check Local Availability
We begin checking suitable local workers as soon as your needs are reviewed. Your worker and dates are confirmed after assessment and availability checks. We explain proposed visit duration, schedule and pricing.
- 03
Tailor and agree your care plan
Assessment shapes the proposed care plan and arrangement for your approval. After a conversation, you can share details and preferences securely online where appropriate. We confirm your agreed support, schedule and price before care begins.
- 04
Begin agreed support
Where assessment, your approval and a suitable worker are in place, we aim to arrange support within 24 hours. This is a target, not guaranteed availability. We confirm the agreed schedule and communication arrangements before support begins.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone stay with my parent while I take a break?
Yes. A care worker spends time with the person at home and follows their Care Plan while you’re away — whether that’s a few hours a week or longer coverage, depending on availability.
How much does respite care cost?
Respite is priced on the level of care the person needs during the visit — for example, Home Support rates for company and household help, or Personal Care rates when personal care is needed. Your proposed Care Plan shows the exact price.
Can respite include personal care or dementia support?
Yes, when it’s part of the assessed Care Plan and delivered by an appropriately qualified worker.
Can you cover overnight or 24 hours?
Longer and overnight support is assessed and quoted individually, and is arranged as scheduled shifts rather than one 24-hour shift. FeatherKeep does not provide live-in care.
What respite care covers
Respite care is non-clinical support at home. Longer coverage is arranged as scheduled shifts, never as one 24-hour shift.
Respite care does not include nursing, medication administration, wound care or other clinical care, and it is not live-in care.
