Respite Care in Langley, BC
Maybe you’re caring for your husband while still working part-time. Maybe you’re the daughter who handles your mother’s appointments, groceries and evenings — and your own family’s too. Either way, the time that belongs only to you has quietly disappeared.
Respite is support for the person receiving care that creates protected time for the family caregiver. Someone suitable is with your loved one at home, so you can go to your own appointment, see friends, attend church or simply rest, without spending the whole time worrying.

Caregivers often reach out when…
Needing a break isn’t a failure of love. It’s how caregiving stays sustainable. Common starting points:
- You haven’t had a full afternoon to yourself in months
- Your own medical appointments keep getting postponed
- You’re caring for a spouse living with dementia and can’t leave them alone
- You’re working while caregiving and evenings are the only time anything gets done
- You’re raising children and supporting a parent at the same time
- You’d like the same reliable break each week rather than scrambling for help
What continues while you’re away
The support during respite depends on what the person you care for needs. It may include:
Company and reassurance
Conversation, familiar activities and someone present so your loved one isn’t alone.
Their usual routine
Lunch at the normal time, the afternoon programme they like, keeping things predictable.
Assessed personal care
Help with toileting, changing or mobility, where the Care Assessment includes it.
Light household help
Washing up after lunch and leaving the kitchen as you like it.
A handover when you return
A short summary of how the time went, so you can step back in easily.
There’s no single respite price. Pricing follows the care level your loved one is assessed as needing — companionship rates when company is the main need, or Personal Care at $65 per hour (2-hour minimum) when hands-on help is required.
Respite is often used by
- Spouses caring for a partner at home
- Adult children supporting an aging parent alongside work
- Families caring for someone living with dementia
- Caregivers who need time for their own health, errands or community commitments
Planning respite around the person you care for
The Care Assessment focuses on your loved one — what helps them feel settled, what they need during the hours you’re away, and anything that tends to unsettle them. That shapes the Individualized Care Plan and the level of support.
We consider the person's support needs, worker eligibility, availability, preferences and relevant fit when coordinating care. For recurring respite, where possible, continuity and familiarity are considered when matching and coordinating ongoing support.

What respite doesn’t include
Respite through FeatherKeep is non-clinical. It doesn’t include nursing, medication administration, clinical monitoring or transportation.
Overnight or extended respite is assessed and priced individually, and offered only where it can be arranged appropriately.
Respite for Langley caregivers
We accept care requests from families in this area. Service availability is confirmed after assessment and depends on the support required and available care workers in your community.
Respite works best when it’s planned rather than requested in a crisis. If you’re in a more rural part of the Township, let us know early — matching a regular worker can take more time there.
Private support can complement the home support you already receive through Fraser Health. FeatherKeep is an independent private provider.
Respite care in Langley: common questions
Can respite be scheduled every week?
Yes. Many caregivers book the same day and time weekly. Schedules are confirmed after assessment, based on worker availability.
Can respite support someone living with dementia?
Yes. The Care Assessment covers routines, preferences and what helps them stay calm, and the plan is built around that.
What happens with my loved one while I’m out?
Whatever the Care Plan sets out — company, familiar activities, meals and, where assessed, personal care — followed by a short handover when you return.
How is the level of support decided?
Through the Care Assessment. The support required, and therefore the price, follows your loved one’s assessed care level.
Is a short break of a few hours worth arranging?
Yes. Visits start at two hours, and even a regular short block can make caregiving feel more manageable.
Do you provide overnight respite?
Longer or overnight support is assessed and priced individually, and only offered where it can be arranged appropriately.
