Companion Care in Langley, BC
Your parent still runs their own household — pays the bills, waters the tomatoes, knows exactly where everything is. What has changed is the length of the afternoons. The neighbours who used to stop by have moved, and your own visits squeeze in between school pickups and work.
Companion support gives that week a reliable anchor: a person who arrives when expected, sits down for a real conversation and helps keep the routines your parent wants to hold on to. They stay in charge of their day; the visit simply makes it less solitary.

When families start thinking about companion care
In Langley it’s common for adult children to live nearby yet still struggle to visit as often as they’d like. Families describe moments like these:
- You’re ten minutes away, but between work and your own kids, weekday visits rarely happen
- Dad is fine with his routines but mentions that he hasn’t spoken to anyone in days
- Mom moved to be closer to family and hasn’t yet built a circle of her own here
- Friends from church or the old neighbourhood have become harder to see
- They light up with company, but there’s no one coming on a set schedule
- You want someone to notice if something seems different between your visits
What a companion visit can look like
Visits follow what the person enjoys and what the Care Plan sets out. Common elements include:
Unhurried conversation
Talking over the week, old stories, family news or whatever is on their mind — with someone who has time to listen.
Activities they already love
Cards, puzzles, music, baking, sorting photos, a little gardening — continuing interests rather than inventing new ones.
Keeping the day’s rhythm
Company over lunch, a cup of tea at the usual time and light help keeping routines on track.
A regular check-in
A familiar visit on set days, so changes in energy, mood or the home are more likely to be noticed.
Accompaniment nearby
Company on a short walk or a planned outing where it’s part of the Care Plan. Transportation isn’t included.
A note to family
A short update after visits, so you know how the day went without having to ask.
Companionship visits are $129 for 2 hours, $177 for 3 hours and $236 for 4 hours, then $59 per hour from 5 hours.
Who tends to benefit
- Older adults living independently who would welcome more regular company
- Someone who has recently moved to Langley to be near family
- A person whose spouse has passed or moved into care
- Adult children juggling work, kids and a parent’s growing need for contact
- Anyone who wants more everyday presence without needing personal care
How we plan companion support
We begin with a Care Assessment: the person’s interests, the parts of the week that feel emptiest, and what they’d rather keep doing themselves. From that we write an Individualized Care Plan that you review and approve before anything is scheduled.
We consider the person's support needs, worker eligibility, availability, preferences and relevant fit when coordinating care. Where possible, continuity and familiarity are considered when matching and coordinating ongoing support. We keep in touch after visits begin and adjust the plan with you if needs change.

What companion care doesn’t include
Companion care is non-clinical social and practical support. Bathing, dressing and toileting help isn’t part of it automatically — if those needs come up, they’re assessed separately as Personal Care and can be added to the same plan.
It doesn’t include nursing, medication administration or transportation.

We accept care requests from families in this area. Service availability is confirmed after assessment and depends on the support required and available care workers in your community.
Langley stretches from Langley City and Willoughby out to rural parts of the Township, so the address matters when we look at worker availability and regular scheduling. Share it early and we’ll be clear about what can be arranged.

Companion care in Langley: common questions
What does companion care actually include?
Conversation, shared activities, company around everyday routines, regular check-ins and updates to family — tailored to the person in their Care Plan.
Can someone visit my parent every week?
Yes. Most families choose set days so visits become part of the routine. Exact times are confirmed after assessment and depend on worker availability.
My parent lives alone and doesn’t want ‘care’. Is this still a fit?
Often it is. Companion support is about company and routine, not taking over. Many people think of it as a regular visitor rather than a service.
Does companion care include help with bathing or dressing?
No. Hands-on personal care is assessed separately as Personal Care and can be added to the same Care Plan if needed.
Will it be the same worker every time?
Where possible, continuity and familiarity are considered when matching and coordinating ongoing support. We can’t promise the same person for every visit, and we tell you in advance when someone different is coming.
Can the companion drive my parent to errands?
Transportation isn’t included. A care worker can accompany the person nearby on foot or on transport the family arranges, if that’s in the plan.
