Dementia & Memory Support at Home in Langley, BC

Your wife still knows every corner of the house you’ve shared for thirty years — but lately she asks about lunch twice, or loses track of the afternoon. You’ve gradually taken over more of the day, and you’re starting to feel how much it asks of you.

Memory support helps someone keep living in surroundings that make sense to them, with a predictable rhythm, gentle reminders and good company — while giving the people closest to them room to breathe.

Where families often are when they call

Every situation is different, but some patterns are common:

  • Memory changes are starting to affect meals, appointments or daily routines
  • Reminders and a set structure to the day help more than they used to
  • A spouse has become the main caregiver and is getting worn down
  • Adult children are coordinating help between work and their own homes
  • The person is happiest with company but becomes uneasy when left alone
  • Needs are shifting, and the family wants a plan that can shift with them

What memory support may include

Built around the person’s history, preferences and current needs:

A steady daily rhythm

Familiar routines and gentle prompts around meals, rest and activities.

Companionship and engagement

Music, photos, walks nearby and conversation that draws on what they love.

Practical home support

Light meal preparation and tidying to keep the home calm and familiar.

Regular check-ins

Visits on set days so small changes are more likely to be noticed.

Respite for the family

Planned time away for a spouse or adult child while support continues at home.

Family communication

Updates after visits and a clear point of contact as things evolve.

There’s no dementia surcharge. Pricing follows the care level the person is assessed as needing — companionship visit rates, or Personal Care at $65 per hour (2-hour minimum) when hands-on help is required.

Memory support is often arranged for

  • Someone in the earlier stages of memory change who still wants to live at home
  • A couple where one partner has become the main caregiver
  • Families coordinating support from different households
  • People whose needs are changing and who benefit from a familiar approach

Matching and continuity in memory support

The Care Assessment gathers what matters most: life history, daily patterns, what calms and what unsettles, and how the family is coping. The Individualized Care Plan turns that into specific, consistent support.

We consider the person's support needs, worker eligibility, availability, preferences and relevant fit when coordinating care. Support that prioritizes continuity and familiarity where possible — we can’t guarantee the same worker every visit, and we let families know ahead of any change.

Support follows the person’s assessed needs and agreed plan.

Memory support for Langley families

We accept care requests from families in this area. Service availability is confirmed after assessment and depends on the support required and available care workers in your community.

Continuity matters especially with memory changes, and it depends partly on where workers are based. For homes in Aldergrove or the rural Township, tell us early so we can be realistic about scheduling and familiarity.

Private support can complement the home support you already receive through Fraser Health. FeatherKeep is an independent private provider.

Dementia care at home in Langley: common questions

Can someone living with dementia keep receiving support at home?

Often, yes — when their needs can be met with non-clinical support. The Care Assessment helps clarify what’s appropriate now and what to watch for.

Can memory support give a spouse a break?

Yes. Respite can be built into the same Care Plan so the spouse has regular protected time.

How does worker matching work?

We consider the person’s support needs, worker eligibility, availability, preferences and relevant fit. Only workers eligible for the required support can be assigned.

Will the same worker come each time?

Where possible, continuity and familiarity are considered when matching and coordinating ongoing support. We can’t promise the same person for every visit.

Can support change as needs change?

Yes. We review the plan with the family and adjust the support, schedule or care level when needed.

Is there an extra charge for dementia support?

No. Pricing follows the assessed care level, with no dementia surcharge.
