Companion Care in White Rock, BC
Your mother still runs her own home and makes her own decisions. But the week has grown quieter — fewer coffees with friends, fewer reasons to get dressed and go out, longer stretches without someone to talk to.
Companion care adds a dependable person to that week. Not to take anything over, but to bring back conversation, a little structure and something to look forward to — while she stays the one in charge of her days.

When families start thinking about companionship
It’s rarely one big moment. More often, a few small things add up:
- Phone calls have become the main way your parent talks to anyone
- A walk along the promenade or a trip to the shops used to be routine, and now it rarely happens
- Friends have moved, passed away or can’t get out as easily either
- You visit when you can, but work, children or distance mean it’s not as often as you’d like
- Your parent is coping well practically, but seems less interested in the things they used to enjoy
- You’d feel easier knowing another reliable person sees them regularly
What companionship can look like week to week
A good visit is the one the person actually enjoys. These are the things families most often ask us to build in:
Real conversation
Time to talk properly — about family, the news, the old neighbourhood, or whatever is on their mind that day.
Familiar pastimes
Crosswords, cards, music, a favourite TV programme watched together, sorting old photos or tending the balcony plants.
Getting out on foot
A gentle walk nearby or a stroll to a local café, where it’s safe and agreed in the plan. Companionship doesn’t include driving or transportation.
Keeping the day on track
Putting the kettle on, making a simple lunch together and keeping meals and rhythms steady.
A regular check-in
The same days each week, so the visit becomes part of the routine — and family knows someone has been by.
A line back to family
Short visit notes and a way to raise small changes early, so you’re not left guessing between your own visits.
Companionship visits are $129 for 2 hours, $177 for 3 hours and $236 for 4 hours, then $59 per hour from 5 hours.
Who companion care often suits
- Older adults who manage their own personal care but spend much of the week alone
- Someone who has recently lost a spouse or close friend
- People who have stopped going out on their own and miss it
- Adult children living in Vancouver, elsewhere in BC or abroad who want a steady presence for a parent
- People with mild memory changes who are calmer with a familiar face
Starting with the person, not a task list
Before we suggest anything, we want to understand who your parent is: what they enjoy, what wears them out, what time of day suits them, and what they would say a good visit looks like. Those answers shape the Care Plan and the care worker we match.
Companionship works best when it’s steady. We aim to keep the same care worker on regular visits so trust can build. If needs change — more help around the house, or help with bathing — we talk it through with you and review the plan, rather than quietly adding tasks.

Where companionship stops
Companion care is non-clinical social and practical support. It doesn’t include hands-on personal care such as bathing, dressing or toileting — if that help is needed, it can be assessed and added as Personal Care in the same Care Plan.
Companionship does not include nursing, medication administration, transportation or overnight support.

Care workers are currently available in White Rock. All care is subject to assessment and a suitable local worker match.
White Rock is its own city, separate from Surrey, though the two share a long boundary. If your parent lives on the South Surrey side, tell us the address — we review it the same way.
Some families use private support alongside publicly funded home support from their health authority, when they want more hours, more flexibility or a particular kind of help. FeatherKeep is an independent private provider. We have no affiliation, partnership or contract with Fraser Health or any health authority, and we don’t decide eligibility for publicly funded care.
Companion care in White Rock: questions families ask
How do I know if my parent might benefit from companion care?
Look less at what they can still do and more at how their week feels. If they’re managing practically but rarely see anyone, have stopped activities they enjoyed, or seem flatter than usual, regular company is often a good place to start.
What happens during a typical visit?
It depends on the person. One visit might be tea, conversation and a crossword; another a short walk and a simple lunch. The Care Plan records their interests and routines so the care worker knows what a good visit looks like for them.
Can visits be the same day and time every week?
Yes. Most families choose a regular schedule, because predictable visits are part of what makes companionship work. Exact times are confirmed after assessment and depend on care worker availability.
Will my parent see the same person each time?
We aim for continuity and try to keep the same care worker for regular visits. That depends on availability, and we’ll tell you in advance if someone new needs to step in.
My parent says they don’t need help. How do we raise it?
Many people respond better to “someone to have coffee with on Tuesdays” than to “care.” Companionship visits are built around what the person wants, and they stay in control of how the time is spent.
Can companionship include help with bathing or medications?
No. Companionship is non-clinical and doesn’t include personal care or medication administration. Personal care can be assessed and added to the same Care Plan if needed. Medication administration isn’t something we provide.
Can the companion drive my parent somewhere?
No — we don’t provide transportation. Walks nearby, and accompanying the person on foot or on transport they’ve arranged themselves, can be discussed during assessment.
