Dementia & Memory Support at Home in White Rock, BC

He still loves his morning coffee on the deck and knows every song from the fifties. But the afternoons get muddled, appointments are forgotten, and your mother is doing more and more to keep the day on track.

Memory support at home is about protecting what is still familiar — the person’s routines, their home, the things they love — while giving the family dependable help around the parts that have become harder.

What families living with memory changes often describe

  • The same routine every day has become important, and changes cause upset
  • Everyday tasks — making lunch, getting ready to go out — are harder to follow through
  • Your parent seems happier and calmer with company, and lonelier without it
  • A spouse is now managing most of the day and rarely gets a break
  • You live some distance away and want regular, honest updates
  • Needs have shifted over the past year, and you expect they’ll keep changing

How support can be shaped around memory changes

Support starts with the person — their history, preferences and good and bad times of day — rather than the diagnosis.

A familiar face

We aim to keep the same care worker visiting, because consistency matters more here than almost anywhere.

Steady routines

Visits at the same time, following the same rhythm: meals, rest, a walk, a favourite programme.

Meaningful time together

Music, photos, folding laundry, gardening — activities that draw on what the person knows and enjoys.

Everyday help

Light meals, tidying and the practical tasks that keep home running smoothly.

Respite for the caregiver

Regular time for a spouse or adult child to rest, see friends or attend their own appointments.

Keeping family informed

Visit notes and follow-up so small changes are noticed and discussed early.

There’s no separate dementia surcharge. Support is priced on the underlying level of care assessed — companionship, home support, or Personal Care at $65 per hour with a 2-hour minimum.

Learning who the person is first

We ask families about the person’s life — work, family, music, the places they’ve lived — along with routines, what tends to upset them and what settles them. That helps us match a care worker with the right temperament and gives them ways to connect.

Needs with dementia rarely stay the same for long. We follow up regularly and review the Care Plan with the family, adjusting hours or adding personal care or respite when it becomes useful.

What memory support does not include

FeatherKeep provides non-clinical support. We don’t diagnose, treat or clinically manage dementia, and we can’t prevent decline or guarantee safety.

Our support does not include nursing, medication administration, medical monitoring, secure or locked-unit care, transportation or guaranteed 24-hour supervision. The person’s doctor and healthcare team remain responsible for medical care.

Memory support for families in White Rock

Care workers are currently available in White Rock. All care is subject to assessment and a suitable local worker match.

Staying in a familiar home and neighbourhood can matter a great deal to someone living with memory changes. Where it’s safe and part of the plan, that might mean a short walk on a well-known route or a visit to a nearby café they’ve always gone to.

Some families use private support alongside publicly funded home support from their health authority, when they want more hours, more flexibility or a particular kind of help. FeatherKeep is an independent private provider. We have no affiliation, partnership or contract with Fraser Health or any health authority, and we don’t decide eligibility for publicly funded care.

Dementia care at home in White Rock: common questions

What kind of support can someone living with dementia get at home?

Companionship, steady routines, everyday household help, assessed personal care, and respite for family caregivers — combined in one Care Plan and reviewed as needs change. All support is non-clinical.

Can dementia support include respite for a spouse?

Yes. Many plans are built partly around giving the main caregiver regular time off, while the person continues their usual routine at home.

How do you choose the right care worker?

We consider the person’s temperament, interests and preferences alongside the care worker’s experience, approach and availability. We aim to keep the same worker so they become familiar.

What if my parent doesn’t want a stranger in the house?

That’s common. We often start with shorter visits focused on company and a shared activity, and build up gradually as trust grows. Families can be there for the first visits.

Do you charge more for dementia support?

No. There’s no dementia surcharge — support is priced on the underlying level of care assessed.

Can you manage medications for someone with dementia?

No. FeatherKeep doesn’t provide medication administration. Families usually arrange this with the person’s pharmacy and healthcare team.

What happens as needs increase?

We review the Care Plan with the family and adjust. If needs go beyond what non-clinical support can safely provide, we’ll tell you openly and suggest talking with the person’s healthcare team about other options.
