What families living with memory changes describe
It rarely announces itself. More often, families tell us things like:
- The same routine every day matters enormously now, and surprises cause real upset
- Getting lunch made, or getting ready to go out, stalls partway through
- Your parent is noticeably calmer with company and flatter when left alone
- A spouse is holding the whole day together and hasn’t had a real break in months
- Adult children are trying to coordinate from different cities — or different provinces
- Needs have changed over the past year, and you expect they’ll keep changing
How support is shaped around memory changes
Support starts with the person — their history, their preferences, their good times of day — not with the diagnosis:
Alzheimer's Routine & Familiarity Support
Familiar tasks, agreed memory prompts, meaningful activities and routines tailored to the person’s history and preferences. Continuity and familiarity are considered where possible.
Surrey Dementia Respite Care
Agreed private-pay support so family caregivers can take a break while the person receives the support set out in their Care Plan.
Safety & Gentle Mobility Support
Support with agreed routines and walking during scheduled visits. Personal care, eating assistance or transfers are included only after assessment, an appropriate worker match and an agreed Care Plan.
Dementia support has no surcharge. The price follows the level of care assessed — companionship, home support, or Personal Care at $65 per hour with a 2-hour minimum.
Learning the person before planning the support
We start with the person’s story — the work they did, the family they raised, the music that still gets a foot tapping — and the details of the day: routines, what unsettles them, what settles them. That’s what lets us match a care worker who genuinely fits.
Needs rarely stay still. We check in regularly and review the Care Plan with the family, reshaping hours or bringing in more help when it becomes useful — and being straightforward if needs ever go beyond what non-clinical support can provide.

What memory support does not include
FeatherKeep provides non-clinical support. We don’t diagnose, treat or clinically manage dementia, and clinical decisions stay with the healthcare team.
Our support doesn’t include nursing, medication administration, medical monitoring, secure or locked-unit care, transportation or guaranteed 24-hour supervision. The person’s doctor and healthcare team remain responsible for medical care.

Staying in a familiar home, with familiar streets and the same corner store, can matter enormously to someone living with memory changes. Where it’s safe and part of the plan, that might mean a walk on a well-known route or time in the garden they’ve kept for decades.
Private support can complement the home support you already receive through Fraser Health. FeatherKeep is an independent private provider.
Dementia care at home in Surrey: common questions
Can someone living with dementia continue receiving support at home?
Often, yes. Companionship, steady routines, everyday help, assessed personal care and respite can be combined in one Care Plan and reviewed as needs change. All of it is non-clinical.
Can dementia support give a spouse or family caregiver a break?
Yes — respite is one of the most common reasons families contact us. The care worker stays with the person at home while the main caregiver takes real time away.
How do you match a care worker to someone with dementia?
We consider the person’s history, temperament and preferences alongside the worker’s experience and availability, and where possible, continuity and familiarity are considered when matching and coordinating ongoing support.
Can support change as needs change?
Yes. Plans are reviewed with the family and adjusted — more hours, added personal care, more respite — and we’re honest if needs ever go beyond what non-clinical support can safely provide.
Is there an extra charge for dementia support?
No. Support is priced on the level of care assessed, not on the diagnosis.
Can you manage medications?
No. FeatherKeep doesn’t provide medication administration. Families usually organize this with the person’s pharmacy and healthcare team.
What if my parent resists having someone new in the house?
That’s very common. We often begin with shorter visits built around a shared activity, with family present at first, and let trust develop from there.
