Respite Care in Surrey, BC
If you’re caring for a spouse or a parent, you’ve probably stopped measuring time in days. It’s measured in appointments that have to be booked around someone else, errands that wait, and the tiredness that builds up because there’s no off switch.
Respite is time back for you, without the person you care for going anywhere. A care worker comes to them at home and carries their day on — so you can step out, or simply sit down, knowing things are looked after.
Request a free in-home assessment. Our team will contact you to arrange a suitable time. Care services and pricing are agreed separately.

Who asks us about respite
Most of the families who contact us aren’t in crisis. They’re simply carrying a lot, and something has to give. It often sounds like this:
- You’re caring for your husband, wife or parent while holding down a job in town or across the bridge
- A spouse’s care needs have grown, and you can’t remember your last unhurried afternoon
- The person you care for lives with dementia and can’t safely be left on their own
- You have your own medical appointments, and taking your parent along isn’t realistic
- Your children, work and your parent’s care are all competing for the same hours
- You don’t need saving — you need a reliable few hours, on a schedule you can plan around
What happens during respite
Respite isn’t a fixed package. The care worker provides the support your family member has been assessed as needing, so their day keeps its usual shape:
Company while you’re out
Someone to talk with, share a meal and spend the time with, so it feels like a normal day to them too.
Their routine, kept
Lunch at the usual time, the afternoon activities they expect, and their usual walk if that’s part of the routine.
Around the house
Cooking a simple meal, washing up and keeping the kitchen in order while you’re away.
Personal care, where assessed
Discreet help with bathing, toileting or moving safely around the home, whenever the Care Plan includes it.
A calm, patient approach
Care workers follow the person’s cues — especially important if they live with memory changes.
A proper handover
A short summary when you return, so nothing important gets lost between you.
Respite doesn’t carry its own rate. The cost follows the care your family member is assessed as needing — companionship-level visits, or Personal Care at $65 per hour with a 2-hour minimum.

Making the handover work for both of you
Leaving someone you care for is easier when the person stepping in knows the details only you know — how they like their tea, what unsettles them, what usually happens at three in the afternoon. We build the Care Plan from what you tell us, and the care worker follows it.
Respite can be a single block for one appointment or a standing arrangement, such as every Tuesday afternoon. Families often start with one visit to see how it feels, then build a rhythm from there.

Respite care in Surrey: common questions
How does respite care work?
A care worker comes to the person you care for, at home, and provides the support in their Care Plan while you take the time. You tell us what the hours are for; we build the visit around the person’s needs and routines.
Can respite be scheduled every week?
Yes. A recurring block — the same morning or afternoon each week — is common, because it gives you something reliable to plan your own life around. Times are confirmed after assessment and depend on care worker availability.
Can respite support someone living with dementia?
Yes, and it often is. The care worker follows the person’s routines and cues, with support that prioritizes continuity and familiarity where possible.
What will the care worker be doing while I’m out?
The support set out in their Care Plan — company, their usual routine, some household help and, where assessed, personal care. The day should feel ordinary to them, not disrupted.
What does respite care cost?
Respite itself has no rate — the cost follows the assessed level of care, such as Personal Care at $65 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. The full cost is in the proposed Care Plan before you approve.
Can I use respite just once, for a single appointment?
Yes. Some families book respite for one specific event and return later; others start a standing schedule. Both are fine.
Do I need to leave the house?
No. Some caregivers head out; others rest in another room or catch up on sleep. How you use the time is up to you.
