Personal Care at Home in Surrey, BC
It usually starts small. The shower gets skipped because the tub feels unsteady. Buttons get harder. A spouse who has quietly helped with dressing for months is starting to strain their own back doing it.
Personal care is hands-on help with exactly those routines — given respectfully, the way the person prefers, so they can stay in their own home without the day beginning with a struggle.

When daily routines begin needing a hand
Families often notice these changes before anyone says them out loud:
- Bathing has become rare because getting in and out of the tub or shower feels unsafe
- A spouse has been the one helping — and it’s becoming too much for them physically
- Standing up from a bed or chair needs a steady arm that isn’t always there
- Dressing, grooming or hair-washing has slipped, and the person seems less like themselves
- Toileting or night-time trips to the bathroom have become the hardest part of the day
- Eating has become difficult without some help or encouragement at mealtimes
Routines we can help with
Only the activities identified in the person’s assessment are included — always at their pace, and always with their privacy in mind:
Bathing and showering
Help getting in and out safely, washing and drying, with warmth and dignity throughout.
Dressing
Help with clothing choices, fastenings, footwear and layers — the person does everything they can themselves.
Grooming
Hair, shaving, oral care and the small rituals that help someone feel like themselves again.
Toileting
Quiet, matter-of-fact help with toileting and continence, handled without fuss.
Mobility and transfers
A steady arm moving around the home, and help getting in and out of bed or a chair, following any guidance from their healthcare team.
Mealtimes
Food prepared the way they like it, and help with eating where it’s been assessed as needed.
Personal Care is $65 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum per visit.
Who personal care may suit
- Older adults who are determined to stay at home but find bathing or dressing harder each month
- Spouses who can no longer safely manage the physical side of helping
- People living with a disability or a long-term condition
- Anyone who needs temporary help with personal routines during recovery
Built around how the person likes things done
This is the most personal support we provide, so the assessment asks the questions that matter: whether they prefer a morning or evening shower, what they can still manage alone, what makes them uncomfortable, and whether their doctor or care team has given any guidance on moving and bathing.
We also look at the home itself — the bathroom, the stairs, the layout. The Care Plan records all of it, and the care worker follows it. As the person’s abilities change, we review the plan with them and with you.

Personal care is not nursing
FeatherKeep personal care is non-clinical. It does not include nursing, wound care, medication administration, injections, catheter care, clinical assessment or medical treatment.
The person’s doctor and healthcare team remain responsible for their medical care. Where that team has given guidance — for example on transfers — the Care Plan reflects it.
Personal care in Surrey homes
Care workers are currently available in Surrey and South Surrey, British Columbia. All care is subject to assessment and a suitable local worker match.
Homes across Surrey and South Surrey vary a lot — newer condos, family houses with stairs, suites and basement homes. Layout matters for bathing and mobility support, so we ask about the home during assessment.
Private support can complement the home support you already receive through Fraser Health. FeatherKeep is an independent private provider.
Personal care in Surrey: what families want to know
Which personal routines can you help with?
Bathing and showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility and transfers, and help at mealtimes — whichever are identified in the assessment and written into the Care Plan.
How do you assess personal care needs?
Through the Care Assessment. We ask what the person manages on their own, where they need a hand, how they like things done, what the home is like, and whether their doctor or care team has given any guidance.
Is personal care the same as nursing?
No. Personal care is non-clinical help with everyday routines. It doesn’t include nursing, wound care, medication administration or any medical treatment.
What does personal care cost in Surrey?
$65 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum per visit. The full price appears in the proposed Care Plan before anything is confirmed.
Can someone help with bathing and dressing?
Yes — that’s the core of personal care. Help is given at the person’s pace, with their privacy respected, and they do everything they’re able to do themselves.
My mother would be more comfortable with a female care worker. Can you accommodate that?
Preferences like that are raised during assessment and respected wherever availability allows. Tell us early so we can match properly.
Can personal care be combined with other support?
Yes. One Care Plan can cover several services, so a visit might include a shower, a meal and some company.
