Personal Care at Home in Nanaimo, BC
Home is where the routines are: the chair by the window, the morning coffee, the way the kitchen is arranged. When getting in and out of the shower or doing up buttons becomes harder, it doesn’t mean all of that has to change.
Personal care provides respectful, hands-on help with the specific everyday activities that have become difficult — based on an assessment of what the person can do, how they like things done, and what support they actually need.
Request a free in-home assessment. Our team will contact you to arrange a suitable time. Care services and pricing are agreed separately.

Signs extra help could make sense
Families and individuals often notice small changes first. For example:
- Showering has started to feel risky, so it happens less often than it used to
- Getting dressed takes much longer, or certain clothes are avoided because of buttons or zips
- Moving from bed to chair, or getting up from the toilet, now needs a steady hand
- A partner has been helping with bathing, and it’s becoming physically hard for them
- Meals are skipped because eating has become tiring or awkward
- The person wants to stay at home and keep their routines, with the right help in place
Activities personal care can include
Only the activities identified in the assessment are included, done the way the person prefers:
Bathing and showering
Support getting in and out, washing, and drying, with privacy respected throughout.
Dressing and grooming
Choosing clothes, dressing, hair care, shaving and other personal grooming.
Toileting
Discreet assistance with toileting and continence routines.
Mobility and transfers
Help moving around the home and between bed, chair and toilet, following any existing guidance.
Eating assistance
Support with eating and drinking at a comfortable pace.
Keeping to familiar routines
Care timed to fit the person’s day rather than the other way round.
Personal Care is $65 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum.

Who personal care is for
- Older adults who want to remain at home but need physical help with some daily activities
- People living with reduced mobility or a long-term condition affecting everyday tasks
- Couples where one partner can no longer safely provide hands-on help alone
- Anyone whose needs have changed and who wants support that adjusts with them
Assessment first, assumptions never
Two people with the same diagnosis can need very different help. The Care Assessment looks at the person’s abilities, routines, preferences, home environment, any existing guidance from their healthcare team, and the level of assistance each activity requires.
That shapes a Care Plan you approve, and we match a care worker who meets its requirements. Where possible, continuity and familiarity are considered when matching and coordinating ongoing support. As needs change, the plan is reviewed rather than left to drift.

Personal care is not nursing
Personal care is non-clinical hands-on support with daily living activities.
It does not include nursing, wound care, medication administration, clinical monitoring or medical treatment. Those remain with the person’s healthcare providers.
Personal care in Nanaimo and nearby
Care workers are currently available in Nanaimo. We also accept requests in Parksville and Qualicum Beach, subject to local worker availability. All care is subject to assessment and a suitable local worker match.
Every home is different — some have stairs, split levels or a bathroom that isn’t set up for easier access. The assessment looks at the person’s actual home when planning how support is given.
Families may choose private home support alongside publicly funded services when additional individualized support is needed. FeatherKeep is a private provider; we don’t decide who is eligible for publicly funded care, and arranging support with us doesn’t change that eligibility.

How do you decide what personal care is needed?
Through a Care Assessment covering the person’s abilities, routines, preferences, home environment, existing guidance and the level of help each activity needs.
What if needs change over time?

Is personal care the same as nursing?

Who provides the care?
A care worker who meets the requirements for the activities in the Care Plan. Only eligible workers can be matched.
